Every woman should have an LBD (little black dress). A go-to dress that you can rely on in case you need to get ready in a hurry, you're having a bad hair day, a frumpy/fat day or you simply can't be bothered to be creative with your outfit!
The classic LBD isn't necessarily a show-stopper, sexy or glamorous (although it certainly can be). It's kind of like your best girlfirend. It's safe, trustworthy and wont' let you down. A uniform that you can put on without thinking that you know will look OK in. Sometimes a girl needs that!
For me, an LBD is like money in the bank. It's not a 'wow' outfit, but it's a staple that you simply can't live without.
In your business, the LBD is money in the bank - literally! Cashflow is the little black dress in a business. Profits and revenue can be stars but until the money starts rolling in your business can still fail. Sometimes the most successful busineses and the fastest growing businesses fail because of one very simple problem. There is no cash!
Suddenly the LBD is looking very sexy! Because without cash you can't trade. So how do you make sure you have good cashflow in your business?
- Through strong terms of trade with your customers
- creating systems (see our earlier blog on 'white shirts' in your busienss)
- creating efficiencies so sales (or jobs) are completed faster
- having and using cashflow budgets so you can plan for problems
- good debtor collection systems
- great relationships with your customers
- great relationships with your bank
So become a fan of the LBD and cash in your business. If you're not a fan of one already I'm sure it won't be too hard to embrace the other...
